What is programming?

Special code is written in a computer language such as Perl or PHP which makes your website more interactive.

Examples of programming for your website:

Email form - visitors fill out form and the data is sent to your email address. (ie, a feedback form).

Form processor - forms email to you and a confirmation is automatically sent to the visitor. Data can also be put automatically into a log or database file.

Searchable database - especially useful when the information you wish to share becomes unwieldy. A product list may contain information such as item name, description, price, etc. Your visitors can search for an item based on any of these criteria.

Database manager - a web-based method of updating your database, adding or deleting entries. You or your employee uses a password to log in and then you can edit the database online.

Messageboard - visitors can read and post messages to each other on your site. Keeps people coming back as you provide a locus for the community.
